It’s not exactly a surprise that Matt Kuchar finds himself as the PGA TOUR’s top scorer.

Despite falling to second in the FedExCup Standings after THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, Matt Kuchar has had a career year on the PGA TOUR.

In addition to his third career PGA TOUR win earlier this season at The Barclays, five top-three finishes in the 2010 PGA TOUR and a $3 million bonus for his runner-up finish in the FedExCup standings, Kuchar led the PGA TOUR in final-round scoring average among those players with at least 15 final-round appearances this season.

“The year has been an amazing year for me, certainly my best ever, and kind of the year that I’ve always wanted to have as a golfer,” Kuchar said. “I never wanted to be a guy whose name popped up on the leaderboard once or twice a year; I wanted to be a guy who found his name up on the leaderboard consistently week in and week out, and it’s been that year.”

Kuchar didn’t rest on his laurels, either. He played in the McGladery Classic during the Fall Series, his ninth appearance in the past 10 tournaments.

“I enjoy playing golf. It’s hard for me not to play. I just—I like being out there and I like playing,” he said.

For the first time this year, Kuchar found himself “out there” as a member of the U.S. team for the Ryder Cup.

“I don’t think I knew exactly what I was getting myself into,” he said. “I knew it was a big stage. I knew there would be tons of people, but I had no idea the intensity and the passion that came with the Ryder Cup from a fan’s perspective.

“I knew the players love play and I knew the players love competing and love winning, and I knew there was a lot more passion from the players’ side, but I didn’t know the fans were quite as intense. And I really enjoyed playing overseas for my first one.”
