Woods to skip PGA Grand Slam of Golf

ATLANTA (Ticker) - Unfortunately for the PGA of America, TigerWoods is about ready for a break.

Woods announced Wednesday at the Tour Championship at East Lakethat he will skip the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda at theMid Ocean Club in October.

The Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal in two weeks will be Woodslast event until he hosts the Target World Challenge inDecember.

The break will give Woods some extended time to spend with hisfamily, including daughter Sam Alexis, who was born the dayafter the U.S. Open in June.

"I am sorry that I will not be able to spend some time with myfriends at The PGA of America and experience the beauty ofBermuda this year at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf," Woods said."It''s been a long year. And, given some new, personalobligations, it is very important that I take some extended timeoff and spend it with my family."

Jim Furyk, winner of the 2003 U.S. Open, will replace Woods andplay along with Masters Champion Zach Johnson, U.S. OpenChampion Angel Cabrera of Argentina and British Open ChampionPadraig Harrington of Ireland.

"While we are disappointed that the world''s No. 1 player willnot be able to join us this year in Bermuda, we certainlyunderstand and respect his decision to be with his family," PGAof America president Brian Whitcomb said. "Tiger has a long andsuccessful history with the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and as aseven-time winner of this event, we are confident that we willsee his participation in the future."
