LA JOLLA, California (Ticker) - When Tiger Woods makes his 2008 debut
Thursday he will be trying to extend a run which has seen him win last
three tournaments and five of his last six.
In a run starting at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone
Invitational last August, Woods has earned just over $17 million
million - $7 million in the events themselves and a $10 million bonus
for capturing the FedEx Cup series.
That works out at an incredible $10,632 for every shot played in the stretch.
The world's top-ranked player is the three-time defending champion at
the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, also the venue for the U.S.
Open in June, and has lifted the title five times in the last nine
years.
He never has finished outside the top 10 at Torrey Pines and with one
more PGA Tour victory, he will equal the 62 achieved by Arnold Palmer
in his career.
Palmer needed 473 starts to reach the figure, while this is Woods' 231st start.
Only Sam Snead (82), Jack Nicklaus (73) and Ben Hogan (64) remain on the list once Woods passes Palmer.
