TIMONIUM, MARYLAND (TICKER) -- Bobby Wadkins held on late to capture last year's Senior Players Championship. He hopes this time around, he won't have to sweat it out nearly as much.

In 2006, Wadkins survived a double-bogey on the 18th hole to hold off Jim Thorpe by a stroke to win his first Champions Tour major championship.

The victory was the first of three Tour wins last season, and he added his fourth title overall when he seized the ACE Group Classic in February.

A high finish for Wadkins would go a long way into securing his place in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship, which will accept the top-30 money winners on the 2007 Champions Tour. The 56-year-old stands in 25th place with $631,001, just $8,871 ahead of 31st-place Morris Hatalsky.

This tournament, which will be entering its 25th year, is the fifth-oldest event on the Champions Tour. It comes to the Baltimore area after a long run of 17 championships in Dearborn, Michigan.

The move should come serve as welcome news to Fred Funk and Donnie Hammond, two Maryland natives, who will be looking to capture the Tour's fifth and final major tournament of the season.
