UST Mamiya announces its shafts captured victory at Sony Open

FORT WORTH, Texas -- UST Mamiya - maker of the world's finest carbon fiber golf shafts - confirms the winner of the PGA Tour's Sony Open relied on its Proforce AXIVCore Tour Black model in his driver (69-gram, X-flex) as well as the company's Frequency Filtered Putter Shaft.

Continuing the trend of strong showings for UST Mamiya shaft users, the winner recorded four rounds in the 60s en route to a dramatic one-shot victory at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, HI. The win represents his second on the PGA Tour using both the Proforce AXIVCore Tour Black model and Frequency Filtered Putter Shaft.

"It is great to come out on top of the first full-field event of the 2010 season," says Gene Simpson, COO of UST Mamiya. "With the always difficult competition at the Sony Open, the winner depended on UST Mamiya shafts for both power off the tee and finesse on the greens."

The Proforce AXIVCore Tour Black features the company's award-winning 4-axis material within the inner walls of the butt section, providing stability and consistent shaft recovery. This counter-balanced shaft series helps players gain more clubhead speed for maximum distance and its flexible, low torque tip section offers high launch, low spin, and better control. It is available in multiple weights and flexes to fit various swing profiles.

The company's radically designed Frequency Filtered Putter Shaft automatically improves the ability of all players to feel where ball impact occurs on the club face. This results in a more consistent stroke and improved putting. The mid-section of the shaft incorporates a Filtering Diffuser which dampens unwanted vibrations, assuring only the true feeling of the ball impacting the face is released to the hands. Interlinked carbon fiber in the butt-section creates tremendous hoop strength for a solid feel.

Likened to the precision of automaker Lexus, all UST Mamiya carbon-fiber shafts are unrivaled in quality attributed to world-class engineering, premium-selected raw materials and handcrafted, repeatable production techniques. Tight tolerances, constant taper design and low-resin content enhance feel during the golf swing.

UST Mamiya produces 35 shaft models within the ATTAS and Proforce product lines:

• ATTAS - Introduced in Japan in early 2009 and in North America last month, this premium shaft was immediately adopted by Tour players globally. Innovatively engineered with smooth-bending properties throughout the shaft's constant taper design, more energy is transferred to the ball for instant feedback with greater distance. Ultra-thin carbon fibers optimize feel and allow the shaft to maintain its shape for consistent, accurate shots. ATTAS is distinguished by its tri-color look, notably its atomic orange.

• Proforce - Famous for its bright gold color and contributing to multiple major-tournament victories, Proforce shafts have been UST Mamiya's flagship since winning the 1999 Masters. The V2 incorporates the company's original "tip technology," masterfully balancing torque, weight, spin and launch angle for extraordinary power off the tee. The latest in the Proforce series, the AXIVCore features four-axis material promoting stability, control and ease of swing for increased ball speed.
