SILVIS, Illinois (AFP) - Defending champion Kenny Perry will try to keep his hot streak alive when he competes in the PGA John Deere Classic which begins Thursday at the TPC Deere Run course.

Perry's victory two weeks ago in the Travelers Championship is still fresh in his mind. It was his second win of 2009 to go with the FBR Open crown.

Perry, who turns 49 next month, won last year's John Deere on the first extra hole of a playoff.

He faces a strong field at the 4.3 million dollar event which includes reigning US Open champ Lucas Glover, Steve Stricker and former Masters champion Zach Johnson.

Glover finished 11th at the Travelers in his first outing since winning the at Bethpage.

One Tour regular that won't be competing this week is Jonathan Byrd whose father died Tuesday after a valiant struggle with cancer.

The winner collects 774,000 dollars.
