DANVILLE, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) -- Lorena Ochoa tries to make history starting Thursday at the $1.1 million Longs Drugs Challenge.

Ochoa, who sits atop the LPGA money list with $2,966,454, is looking to become the first golfer in Tour history to surpass the $3 million mark in earnings in a single season.

The world's top-ranked player, Ochoa will be seeking her seventh title of the season and fourth in her last five events.

Before finishing tied for third at the Navistar LPGA Classic last weekend, Ochoa had nothced three consecutive victories.

Ochoa started her streak by winning her first major title at the Ricoh Women's British Open on August 5 and followed it with victories at the Canadian Women's Open and Safeway Classic.

Expected to challenge Ochoa is defending champion Karrie Webb, who shot a 15-under-par 273 to win by a stroke over Annika Sorenstam last year.

A five-time winner in 2006, Webb still is looking for her first win this season. The second-ranked player in the world last won a title at the Mizuno Classic in November.

Suzann Petterson also will try to narrow her gap on the money list Petterson, who sits behind Ochoa with just over $1.1 million in earnings, is looking for her first win since the McDonald's LPGA Championship in June.

Other notables in the field include Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr and Morgan Pressel.
