BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A world leading institution for golf industry education, Golf Academy of America (GAA) is proud to announce that three of its staff members and two students from the college’s Phoenix campus were recently honored in a special ceremony by the Lakota Sioux tribe.

Troy Lunderman, a native of Rosebud, S.D., and member of the Lakota tribe, recently graduated from GAA and introduced a touch of Native American traditions to the graduation.

According to tribal tradition, a handmade star quilt is presented to people who make a lasting impression on someone’s life.  During the ceremony, the three GAA instructors and the classmates were presented with unique, handcrafted blankets, while a traditional Lakota song was sung to honor the recipients for guiding the recent graduate on his journey toward a degree at Golf Academy of America.

Quilts were awarded to Tim Eberlein, the Phoenix campus director; Donna Grocott, an administrative assistant at the school; and Ed Ekis, a full-time instructor at the Phoenix campus as well as a PGA member.  Two fellow classmates of Lunderman were also part of the recognition.

The Golf Academy of America leads the industry in golf education and features four campuses in major golf markets – Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, Orlando and San Diego. The GAA was founded in 1974 and is today accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) which is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation.
