BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Golf Academy of American graduate John Thomas of Morgantown, W.V., has been named as the new Head Golf Professional at Wicked Stick Golf Links in Surfside Beach, S.C. Thomas served as the first assistant professional at the Signature Golf Group facility since 2006.

“We are very proud of John and his accomplishment,” says Jim Hart, campus director at GAA Myrtle Beach.  “Since his time at GAA, John has worked extremely hard and we believe his promotion was well-served. We offer our sincerest congratulations”

Designed by PGA Tour veteran John Daly and architect Clyde Johnston, Wicked Stick (www.WickedStick.com) brings Daly’s ‘grip it and rip it’ style to golf course design.  In 2003, Thomas relocated to the Myrtle Beach area where he attended the Golf Academy of America to fulfill his desire of entering the golf business. While attending GAA, Thomas worked part time at Indian Wells Golf Club and was later hired by Blackmoor Golf Club where he served as the first assistant golf professional.

Thomas was elected to membership in the Professional Golfers Association of America in March 2009 after completing the PGA Golf Professional Training Program.

The Golf Academy of America leads the industry in golf education and features four campuses in major golf markets – Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, Orlando and San Diego. The GAA was founded in 1974 and is today accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) which is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation.
