ORLANDO, Flor. – Gold Academy of America (GAA) is not only committed to excellence in education but also in improving communities, and the latest award even to staff member illustrates just this. GAA is proud to announce Alan Flashner, from the Orlando campus, has been named the 2009 recipient of the coveted Bill Strausbaugh Award for the North Florida section, East Chapter of the PGA of America.

Each year the Bill Strausbaugh Award is presented to a PGA professional whose day-to-day efforts have distinguished them by mentoring their fellow PGA Professionals in improving their employment situations and through service to the community. It was established in 1979, and the award reflects the characteristics and qualities of Strausbaugh, a Middle Atlantic PGA Master Professional who died in 1999. Alan Flasher demonstrates a record of service to his PGA chapter, section, and association including examples of leadership ability, involvement in civic activities and local charitable causes within his community and he is recognized as someone of outstanding character.

“We are, of course, proud of ‘Flash’ for receiving this recognition,” says Golf Academy of America President Chris Hunkler. “But we see what he does and how he does it everyday and are not one bit surprised. He is an exceptional individual and a real credit to the PGA and to the Golf Academy of America”

Alan Flashner attained his PGA membership in 1972, and in 1995 earned the level of Master Professional. Alan has been Head Golf Professional at Northampton Valley Country Club, Sports Golf Range, and White Manor Country Club. He was Host Professional for six LPGA Championships. In 2000 and 2001, Alan was a recipient of the local PGA Chapter Bill Strausbaugh Award and also received the 2000 North Florida PGA Section Bill Strausbaugh Award. He serves as a guest speaker for the North Florida PGA and Florida State High School Golf Association. Alan received a B.S. in education from Westchester University in 1967.

The Golf Academy of America leads the industry in golf education and features four campuses in major golf markets – Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, Orlando and San Diego. The GAA was founded in 1974 and is today accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) which is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation.
