HOUSTON (Ticker) - Ernie Els has been forced to withdraw fromthe Houston Open with a virus.
A similar problem delayed the South African''s arrival in Miamifor last week''s CA Championship and it now will prevent the38-year-old from playing in the final tournament before TheMasters.
"I am very disappointed to have been forced to make thisdecision because I was really looking forward to playing thisweek," Els said. "The Shell Houston Open was going to be animportant part of my build-up towards The Masters, but I havebeen advised that it would not be in my best interests to play.
"I am very sorry to disappoint the organizers in Houston, buthope to play in their prestigious event in the future".
Even without Els, the Houston Open will have a strong field.Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, defending champion Adam Scott,K.J. Choi and Geoff Ogilvy are all scheduled to compete.
