Callaway’s New X Series Jaws

Although metal woods is its core business, one of the better products Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) has developed the past couple of years is its X Series Jaws wedges. When you think about it, the company should be good at wedges given the fact that its chief wedge designer is Roger Cleveland, the original designer of Cleveland Golf wedges.

The wedges were named ‘Jaws’’ by Callaway staff player Phil Mickelson and once you play them you’ll understand why.

Now Callaway Golf is coming with a new line of X Series Jaws wedges calls X Series Jaws CC designed by Cleveland. The new CC wedges (suggested retail price $119 steel and $139 graphite) feature the company’s new Tour CC Grooves that meet the Condition of Competition on the PGA Tour. Callaway says the proprietary groove pattern produces enhanced spin and the C-Grind Sole and classic head design (what else would you expect from Roger Cleveland?) ensure versatility for the short game.

The X Series Jaws CC wedges are forged from 1020 carbon steel in a Slate Finish.

Callaway says the “C’’ shape of the sole, along with a tighter heel-toe radius and bounce, improves turf interaction and enables golfers to lay the face open while keeping the leading edge down.
